1915 The White Company opens a dealership in Birmingham, Alabama at 2021 Third Avenue South. C.B. Cowin is named manager. The dealership's name was The White Company, the sales subsidiary of the manufacturer, The White Motor Company. |
1926 The parent company plans and builds a new facility, specially designed to serve truck customers, and The White Company moves to 1701 Third Avenue South.

1938 White dissolves The White Company and consolidates product manufacturing and selling operations in The White Motor Company.
1953 White Motor Company acquires Autocar Company in exchange for preferred stock.
1958 The first Volvo truck is introduced in to the United States market.
1961 Homer M. Long assumes management of White Motor Company's Birmingham dealership and remains General Manager until his retirement in 1974.

1974 T.C. "Bill" Sams is promoted to President of the Birmingham branch following Homer Long's retirement. Bill had previously served as the dealership's Business Manager and was a successful salesman.

1981 AB Volvo of Sweden purchases White Motor Company's assets including plants in Dublin, Virginia, Ogden, Utah and Orrville, Ohio. The purchase includes the entire WHITE and AUTOCAR product lines. The Birmingham branch changes its name to Volvo White Truck Corporation. |

1986 Volvo White announces a joint venture with General Motors and takes over manufacturing and sales of all Class 8 GMC Trucks. The manufacturer changes its name to Volvo GM Heavy Truck Corporation. | |
1988 All products are sold under the nameplate WHITEGMC. The Birmingham operation changes its name to WHITEGMC Trucks of Birmingham.

1994 Volvo GM Heavy Truck Corporation sells the Birmingham branch to T.J. Willings. Bill Sams retires after 41 years of service at the firm. |

1995 AB Volvo buys out General Motor's shares and renames U.S. operations Volvo Trucks North America. Henceforth, all trucks will be branded Volvo. The Birmingham store adds the GMC medium duty truck franchise and changes its name to Volvo & GMC Trucks of Birmingham.

1998 Volvo & GMC Trucks of Birmingham is named Volvo Truck's Dealer of the Year for the United States.
