The heart of the powertrain is the Mack® ASET® -- Application Specific Engine Technology -- engine family, featuring electronic unit pump injection and V-MAC® electronics. The ASET engine family offers superior horsepower and torque capability, improved fuel efficiency, quicker throttle response and greater engine braking output. Above all, the ASET engine maintains the high quality and reliability standards that have become synonymous with Mack.

ASET AI Series Engines
Vocational trucks are real workhorses. Compared to highway trucks, they travel relatively short distances over rough terrain with lots of stops and starts. Available in both Maxidyne® and Econodyne® models, the ASET AI engine is designed specifically to give drivers the power and performance to conquer tough vocational jobs. The engine utilizes internal exhaust gas recirculation for reduced emissions and greater efficiency. The breakthrough design of the ASET AI engine allows exhaust gas to be recalculated with fresh, cooler air to provide responsive power and meet stringent NOx levels.

ASET AC
Engines built for highway use operate in a steady-state environment. Simply put, that means they run for long periods of time on the open roads at high speeds. Available in both Econodyne® and MaxiCruise™ models, the Mack® ASET® AC engine designed specifically for highway use combines two innovative technologies. The first is Cooled Exhaust Gas Re-circulation (CEGR) that dramatically reduces nitrogen oxide (NOx) for cleaner emissions. The second is Variable Geometry Turbocharger. It provides the power, torque and response time drivers demand.
