The entire Mack product line is manufactured at this one-million-square-foot plant in Macungie, PA, just outside of Allentown.
The Macungie Assembly Operations ISO 14001:1996 certification was upgraded to the ISO 14001:2004 standard by LRQA in June 2005. Recertified to the ISO 14001:2004 standard in June 2006 and April 2009.
The plant has incorporated a purge solvent that is free of Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAP's) which resulted in a decrease of HAP's emissions by nearly 97%;
- The plant eliminated lead and chromium from basecoat paints.
- The plant reduced the amount of landfill waste per unit by 40% from 2005 to 2009.
- The plant incorporated the use of natural gas fired air handlers and natural gas fired boiler. SOx emissions have been virtually eliminated from the facility; NOx emissions have b een drastically reduced; CO2 emissions have been reduced by 63% overall since 2002; from 2004 to 2009, Macungie reduced overall energy usage by 48%.
