Mack Dealer Surgenor Truck Group is now a Certified Electric Dealer

GREENSBORO, NC (Dec. 13, 2022) – Surgenor Truck Group locations in Kingston and Ottawa, Ontario, Canada are now both Mack Trucks Certified Electric Vehicle (EV) Dealers and ready to service and support the Mack® LR Electric refuse model.

“Congratulations to Surgenor for investing in electrification and achieving EV-Certified status at both of these locations,” said Jonathan Randall, president of Mack Trucks North America. “Mack customers in Kingston and Ottawa can expect the same level of comprehensive support for EVs that they do for all Mack products. We are proud that so many of our dealers our working with us to achieve EV certification so they are ready to meet the needs of transportation as it evolves toward the future.”

Mack dealers choosing to become EV-certified must meet stringent safety, infrastructure, charging, training and tooling requirements. Each dealer rooftop that is EV-certified also must make infrastructure changes, but Mack executives met regularly with Surgenor leadership to ensure a smooth transition.

Surgenor Truck Group, located at 261 Binnington Ct., Kingston, has 10 technicians, two of whom are master techs and two of whom are certified EV technicians. Surgenor’s Ottawa site at 1571 Liverpool Ct., has 16 technicians, with five being master technicians and two being certified EV techs. Both locations have one service bay dedicated to battery-electric vehicles (BEVs). Surgenor installed Heliox fast DC 50 kW chargers at both sites.

“Surgenor is ready and pleased to be part of the evolution of transportation toward electrification,” said Mike Gallant, general manager of Surgenor Kingston. “Many of our customers have made inquiries into electric vehicles and the LR Electric in particular, and we are excited to be leading this movement along with Mack Trucks.”

Surgenor Truck Group is committed to sustainability, as evidenced by its fluid, paper and cardboard recycling program and its tire stewardship program. Both dealer sites have LED lighting throughout the facilities.

The next generation Mack LR Electric refuse vehicle offers 42 percent more energy and a standard 376kWh total battery capacity for increased range between charges. Twin electric motors with 448 continuous horsepower and a 4,051 lb.-ft. of peak torque output from zero RPM power the vehicle.

Four NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide) lithium-ion batteries, charged through a 150 kW, SAE J1772-compliant charging system, power the vehicle and all onboard accessories through 12V, 24V and 600V circuits. The two-stage regenerative braking system helps recapture energy from the hundreds of stops the vehicle makes each day with an increasing load. A copper-colored Bulldog on the cab denoting the electric drivetrain makes the LR Electric easily identifiable as a Mack truck.

The Mack LR Electric may be fitted with equipment bodies from numerous manufacturers. The driver/passenger side driving configurations, as well as seating choices and door options, offered in the LR Electric are that same that are offered in the diesel-powered Mack LR model.

Surgenor Kingston’s 16,000 square-foot facility offers $800,000 in parts inventory, while Surgenor Ottawa’s 24,000 square-foot facility has $2.5 million in parts inventory. Surgenor Kingston is open 7 a.m. to midnight Monday through Friday and 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Surgenor Ottawa is open 7 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday and 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
