Mack Dealer Pacific Coast Heavy Truck Group in Langley is Now a Mack Certified Electric Vehicle Dealer
GREENSBORO, NC (Dec. 1, 2022) – Pacific Coast Heavy Truck Group, based in Langley, British Columbia, Canada is now a Mack Trucks Certified Electric Vehicle (EV) Dealer. This designation means that Pacific Coast went through stringent requirements so that it would be able to service and support the Mack® LR Electric refuse model.
“Mack congratulates Pacific Coast Heavy Truck Group for its commitment to sustainability and electrification, partnering with Mack to achieve our environmental and e-mobility goals so that society moves toward a decarbonized future,” said Jonathan Randall, Mack Trucks senior vice president of sales and commercial operations. “As a result of Pacific Coast’s certification, their electric vehicle customers can be confident that they’ll receive the same level of support already provided on diesel products.”
To become EV-certified, Mack dealers must meet numerous safety, infrastructure, charging, tooling and training requirements. Each dealer rooftop that is EV-certified also must make infrastructure changes, but Mack executives work hand-in-hand with dealer leadership to ensure a smooth transition. Pacific Coast Heavy Truck Group and Mack met routinely to make sure the process was as simple as possible.
Pacific Coast Heavy Truck Group, located at 9758-203rd St., Langley, has 28 technicians, 12 of whom are master techs and two of whom are certified EV technicians. The Langley location has four service bays dedicated to battery-electric vehicles (BEVs).
“We decided to become EV-certified so that we were ready to support our customers because it is clear the future of transportation, and trucking specifically, is moving toward electrification,” said Ken North, Pacific Coast Mack brand manager. “Several customers have inquired about the Mack LR Electric, and we look forward to servicing and supporting them in the future.”
Assembled at Lehigh Valley Operations (LVO), Macungie, Pennsylvania, where all Mack Class 8 vehicles for North America and export are assembled, the Mack LR Electric offers zero tailpipe emissions, improved sustainability and a quieter vehicle for refuse collection. Mack recently announced a target of 35 percent of its global sales will be fully electric by 2030, which the Mack LR Electric will help fulfill.
The next generation Mack LR Electric refuse vehicle offers 42 percent more energy and a standard 376kWh total battery capacity for increased range between charges. Twin electric motors with 448 continuous horsepower and a 4,051 lb.-ft. of peak torque output from zero RPM power the vehicle.
Four NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide) lithium-ion batteries, charged through a 150 kW, SAE J1772-compliant charging system, power the vehicle and all onboard accessories through 12V, 24V and 600V circuits. The two-stage regenerative braking system helps recapture energy from the hundreds of stops the vehicle makes each day with an increasing load. A copper-colored Bulldog on the cab denoting the electric drivetrain makes the LR Electric easily identifiable as a Mack truck.
The Mack LR Electric may be fitted with equipment bodies from numerous manufacturers. The driver/passenger side driving configurations, as well as seating choices and door options, offered in the LR Electric are that same that are offered in the diesel-powered Mack LR model.
Pacific Coast opened its first dealership in 1987. The 57,000 square-foot Pacific Coast Langley dealership, opened in 2016, is a Certified Uptime Dealer and offers $2.5 million in parts inventory. Pacific Coast Heavy Truck Group operates three additional locations – Annacis Island, Delta, B.C.; Chilliwack, B.C.; and Kamloops, B.C. Hours of operation at the Langley site are 7 a.m. to midnight, Monday to Saturday.
