Mack Trucks Spotlights E-Mobility Leadership at ACT Expo 2024
GREENSBORO, NC (May 16, 2024) – Mack Trucks will have three battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) covering Class 6 and Class 8 on display in its booth at Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo 2024, highlighting its focus on advanced technologies and total ecosystem support of the customer. Mack executives also will be featured as experts on several panels during the show, May 20-23, at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Mack MD Electric complements its diesel-powered MD Series sibling, but with zero tailpipe emissions to support the company’s and customers’ long-term sustainability goals. The Mack MD Electric is in full production at Roanoke Valley Operations (RVO), in Roanoke Valley, Virginia, where the diesel-powered MD Series is also assembled.
The Mack MD Electric is available like its diesel counterpart in Class 6 and Class 7 ratings. The Class 6 model has a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 25,995 pounds, and the Class 7 model has a GVWR of 33,000 pounds. Both models are exempt from the 12% Federal Excise Tax (FET).
Available in 4x2 configurations, the Mack MD7 is ideal for refuse collection in tight or weight-restricted areas and other applications. The MD model also offers a clear back of cab above the frame rail to make it easier for body builder adaptations.
The MD Electric is the second electric vehicle introduced by Mack Trucks to the industry. The first was the Mack LR Electric, which went into production in December 2021.
The next generation Class 8 Mack LR Electric refuse model offers a standard 376 kWh total battery capacity for 42% more energy and increased range between vehicle charges. Twin electric motors produce 448 continuous horsepower and 4,051 lb.-ft. of peak torque output from zero RPM.
Four NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide) lithium-ion batteries, charged through a 150 kW, SAE J1772-compliant charging system, power the vehicle and all onboard accessories through 12V, 24V and 600V circuits. The two-stage regenerative braking system helps recapture energy from the hundreds of stops the vehicle makes each day with an increasing load.

- Front Axle: Mack FXL20, rated up to 20,000 lbs., with Mack Multileaf springs
- Rear Axle: Mack S462R, rated up to 46,000 lbs.
- Features: Mack 150/151 axle carrier without differential locks and with power divider; dual right-hand/left-had steer; and LED headlights, marker and interior lights
Mack MD Electric
- Body: R/S Godwin 15-foot polished aluminum dump
- Battery: 150 kWh
- Front Axle: Meritor MFS+ 10,000-lb. taperleaf suspension
- Rear Axle: Meritor MS-21-14X rear axle rated up to 21,000 lbs. with differential locks and Mack Multileaf suspension
- Features: Class 6, 25,995 GVW, Mack Air-Suspended seats and GeoTab telematics
Mack MD Electric
- Body: Momentum Group’s 120 kW off-grid charger, renewable propane-powered generator
- Battery: 240 kWh
- Front Axle: Meritor MFS+ 12,000-lb. taperleaf suspension
- Rear Axle: Meritor MS-21-14X rear axle rated up to 21,000 lbs. with differential locks and Mack AL210 Air Suspension
- Features: Class 6, 25,995 GVW, Mack Air-Suspended seats and GeoTab telematics
