Wayne Smith Farms, Cooley Transport Receive First U.S. Deliveries of All-New Mack Pioneer™
GREENSBORO, NC (Nov. 24, 2025) – Mack Trucks today announced that Wayne Smith Farms and Cooley Transport/Maloney Leasing have taken delivery of the first all-new Mack Pioneer™ trucks in the United States through Mack dealer Tri-State Truck Centers. Wayne Smith Farms purchased six 76-inch sleeper models from Tri-State’s North Little Rock, Arkansas, location, while Cooley Transport acquired four 76-inch sleepers from the Tupelo, Mississippi, location, with four additional units on order. The deliveries mark a significant milestone as the all-new Pioneer, Mack’s most aerodynamic and driver-focused highway truck to date, begins reaching American customers.
The eight Pioneer 76-inch sleeper units will be deployed across both fleets’ long-haul operations, with drivers already praising the trucks’ exceptional ride quality, pulling power and comfort features that are setting new standards in the highway trucking segment.
“These first U.S. deliveries underscore the excitement and confidence that leading American fleets have in the Pioneer’s revolutionary design and capabilities,” said Jonathan Randall, president of Mack Trucks North America. “Wayne Smith Farms and Cooley Transport’s early adoption of this groundbreaking truck, supported by the outstanding partnership with Tri-State Truck Centers, demonstrates their commitment to providing their drivers with the industry’s most advanced equipment while maximizing operational efficiency.”
Wayne Smith, owner of Wayne Smith Farms, shared his firsthand experience with the new Pioneer after personally driving one of the trucks.
“Our drivers love the way they ride. I drove one of them myself for about 1,500 miles, and it was like driving a car. It’s a solid truck." said Smith. “The service after the sale of a Mack is phenomenal. The Pioneer has the best adaptive cruise system of any truck I’ve ever driven.”
Cooley Transport/Maloney Leasing has also experienced immediate positive feedback from their driving team, with drivers particularly impressed by the Pioneer’s combination of style and substance.
“The drivers love it – it's a very stylish truck on the outside and the inside is very functional, comfortable and high quality. They’ve all bragged about the pulling power,” said Stevie Hurd, director of transportation operations at Cooley Transport.
The positive driver feedback has already resulted in expanded orders, with Cooley Transport placing an order for four additional Pioneer units to further modernize their fleet.
Unveiled in April 2025, the Pioneer represents the future of Mack’s highway offerings with a bold design that embodies the brand’s legendary durability while introducing several industry-first and cutting-edge features. The aerodynamics of the Pioneer, combined with engine and transmission upgrades, deliver up to an 11% improvement in fuel efficiency compared with Mack legacy models, helping to lower total cost of ownership while enhancing driver productivity.
Al Stephens, sales manager at Tri-State Truck Centers, emphasized how the Pioneer’s design directly impacts driver satisfaction and retention.
“The interior quality makes a huge difference,” Stephens said. “They can get comfortable if they look and feel good driving it. It's very appealing from the outside and has all the creature comforts inside.”
The Pioneer is available in multiple configurations including day cabs and short, medium and long sleeper options to meet the diverse needs of fleet owners and operators across all highway applications. The truck features exclusive driver comfort innovations like the Mack premium seating system with dual armrests and optional integrated heating, cooling and massage functions, a flat-bottom steering wheel, push-button start and wireless charging options. Enhanced standard safety features include frontal airbags and Mack® Protect, a proprietary Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) incorporating the latest active and passive safety technologies.
The Pioneer is the most connected Mack truck ever, featuring a substantial increase in remote diagnostics and over-the-air software update capabilities to maximize uptime. The new MyMack smartphone app enables drivers to remotely check truck status and control lights and HVAC systems.
“Tri-State Truck Centers has been a trusted partner in the heavy truck industry, providing exceptional sales and service support to fleets across their market area,” Randall said. “Their commitment to customer success and expertise in matching the right equipment to customer needs has been instrumental in bringing the Pioneer to these pioneering fleets.”
