Mack Trucks Debuts Mack® ImpactShield™ Windshield Technology on All-new Mack Granite® and Expanded New Truck Lineup
GREENSBORO, NC (April 30, 2026) – Mack Trucks today announced the availability of the Mack® ImpactShield™, the first-ever use of Corning® Fusion5® Glass in a Class 8 heavy-duty truck. Standard on the all-new Mack Granite, the ImpactShield delivers a significant advancement in windshield durability, damage resistance and total cost of ownership — bringing automotive-grade glass technology to one of the most demanding vocational trucks on the market.
The all-new Mack Granite, unveiled at ConExpo-Con/Agg 2026, represents a complete reimagining of Mack’s legendary vocational truck — featuring an all-new galvanized steel cab, industry-leading safety technologies including 270-degree radar coverage and Electronic Park Brake (ePark Brake) with rollaway protection, and a driver-centric interior developed with input from professional drivers. The ImpactShield windshield, with its one-piece bonded curved design, is a natural extension of that commitment: a component built to the same standard as the truck around it.
Corning Fusion5 Glass is the world’s first glass engineered specifically for automotive exterior applications, designed to withstand sharp impact strikes and resist damage in demanding operating environments. For Class 8 truck applications, in which vehicles face constant exposure to road debris, extreme temperatures and harsh jobsite conditions, the technology helps protect drivers and reduce maintenance costs.
Compared with a standard Class 8 windshield, the Mack ImpactShield delivers measurable performance advantages: 2x better sharp impact resistance, 2x better thermal shock resistance, 5x better scratch resistance, improved resistance to environmental wear and weathering, weight reduction and improved defrost performance.*
“Mack customers don’t have time for unplanned stops, and neither do we,” said Tim Wrinkle, vice president, product owner, vocational and medium duty at Mack. “Partnering with Corning to bring Fusion5 Glass to heavy-duty trucking isn’t just about using better materials; it’s about finding every possible way to keep our customers’ trucks on the job and their costs under control.”
The Mack ImpactShield’s one-piece bonded curved windshield design provides improved durability and impact resistance compared with conventional glass, supporting Mack’s commitment to maximum uptime in challenging work environments. Reduced windshield damage means fewer unplanned service events and lower glass replacement costs over the life of the vehicle, offering a tangible return on investment for fleet operators.
Corning, makers of Corning® Gorilla® Glass, bring more than 100 years of automotive materials science expertise to the collaboration, working alongside Mack and other OEMs to address their most demanding technical challenges.
“Corning Fusion5 Glass represents a significant advancement in automotive glazing solutions, addressing a real-world problem of breakage, while providing real economic benefits to customers,” said Mike Kunigonis, vice president and general manager, Corning Automotive Glass Solutions. “Introducing this technology with Mack demonstrates our relentless commitment to helping solve customers’ toughest challenges, now including those in the heavy-duty truck market.”
The Mack ImpactShield windshield featuring Corning Fusion5 Glass is standard on the all-new Mack Granite, which will be available for order in the latter half of 2026, with production beginning in January 2027 at Mack’s Lehigh Valley Operations facility in Macungie, Pennsylvania. Customers can also choose a one-piece curved Mack Aero™ windshield.
Mack ImpactShield technology will also be available as an upgrade to Mack’s Aero windshield on the Mack Pioneer, all-new Mack Anthem, and Mack Keystone models.
