New driver environment features latest ergonomic details
The new Mack Pioneer™ interior design reflects Mack Trucks' view that the driver will continue to be critical to freight transport in the future, even if some tasks will be automated. Mack's products have always been driven by the philosophy of "balanced design," where function and appearance seamlessly merge for an optimized and distinctly Mack experience. That means interior features are designed to the increase safety and productivity by offering enhanced ergonomics and comfort. From the moment the driver steps up into the cab, settles into the seat and reaches for the controls, every detail has been meticulously tailored for his needs and expectations.
I nstrument panel
The newly designed driver environment has been developed to keep the driver focused and comfortable with emphasis on the most ergonomic details. Controls are close to the driver’s hands on the steering wheel or within easy reach on the dash and door panel. Even the transmission drive controls are located on the steering column stalk rather than on the dash. The most frequently used controls are optimized to the driver’s line of sight and ergonomic reach. Dash control switches can be configured to the driver or fleet's choice, as the multiplexed switches' positions are easily relocated. Both driving and living environments offer inductive charging in multiple locations. A secondary information display is optional, with a storage cubby in the same location if it is not spec'ed.
Among the many features unique to Mack Pioneer’s interior cab is the accessory rail that functions as a phone and screen holder, cord management and a grab bar. The Mack ELD plate is designed to secure the new, electronic log device and has space to mount screens and monitors. These additions give drivers more flexibility and choices and were well received by drivers during multiple driver clinics.
Instrument cluster
The Pioneer's instrument cluster takes advantage of recent display technology, with a new 12-inch digital instrument cluster display. The cluster allows the driver to confidently monitor engine and vehicle systems as well to be alerted to any faults or warnings that need immediate attention. Mack uses specific color, fonts, and lighting to give brand distinction, but is also designed to be easily read and reduces eye fatigue at night. The cluster has 6 different views that can be cycled and selected via the right-hand side steering wheel controls
Steering wheel
The Pioneer boasts a new 18” steering wheel, with bold styling on the spokes and steering wheel controls that reflect Mack brand attributes. Large, easy to access buttons are designed for driver comfort and ease of operation. The new steering wheel retains the distinctive flat bottom that customers have grown to associate with Mack Trucks and the extra room and comfort it delivers. The steering column is available in tilting/telescoping or a tilting/telescoping/neck tilt version all control activated via a foot pedal near the floor.
The steering column control stalks continue the iconic Mack design. On the left stalk there are controls for turn signals, wipers, and high beam headlights. New controls for Mack mDRIVE™ and engine braking are located on the right stalk.
