Truck’s interior features premium living space
Mack Trucks' new flagship, the Mack Pioneer™, sets new standards for the brand in comfort and driver productivity that match its performance and efficiency. The new, from-the-ground-up cab allowed Mack's designers to focus completely on the environment drivers always experience when they are inside the truck. That is particularly true for the resting and sleeping environment that long-haul drivers live in every day when they are not driving.
Pioneer provides a living and sleeping space designed for drivers’ well-being, health and comfort. The calm, comfortable environment throughout the truck's interior is reflected in the premium craftsmanship, innovative design and attention to the smallest details. A well-rested driver is a safer, more productive one, and the living space gives the opportunity for a good night’s sleep in a dark, quiet, temperature-controlled room.
The new cab resulted in an interior full of features designed to give a home-away-from-home feel, regardless of the cab and sleeper configuration buyers choose. Throughout the cab’s living space, innovative details add to the overall ambiance, all the result of exhaustive research including driver clinics to test solutions in real life situations.
After a long day
The Pioneer's comfort and driver amenities shine once the driver parks the truck for a rest break or sleep. The rest/living/sleeper area has space to prepare a meal, eat and work on the fold-down dinette table or recline on the bunk and watch a show on a flat screen TV. The large refrigerator helps with meal prep, while there is ample storage in the sleeper for clothes and other gear and supplies needed on a long trip. Easily reached controls adjust temperature, lights, door locks and the radio. The new interior is a place to recharge, relax and prepare for the next leg of the journey.
Here are some of the M1’s new and notable design innovations for the driver’s interior living comfort.
Driver in control
Mack Pioneer provides an integrated driver control panel for the audio and HVAC. This combined control center is referred to as the Driver Environment Control Module (DECM) and includes the standard Radio Electronics Module (REM). The new DECM control panel features easy to use control knobs, dials and switches and features automatic climate control with digital display. The REM offers AM/FM radio, Bluetooth connectivity, basic SiriusXM satellite radio, a dedicated USB-C data port and a weather band station. Climate control for the cab and sleeper can be set from the driver’s seat or controlled separately from the sleeper. When the driver enters the sleeper, he’s still in control.
Climate control
Drivers work and sleep is enhanced by providing air quality and climate comfort throughout the cab and bunk area. The HVAC controls in the sleeper are in the Living Electronic Control Module (LECM) located on the rear wall of the sleeper or via the MyMack app. The LECM is simple to operate and functions like a home thermostat. The driver can also use the panel to lock the doors, set audio levels and close all the shades simultaneously.
The optional engine and cab coolant parking heater uses the existing HVAC blowers and vents as the air distribution method and is three times more powerful than the previous system. The system is available on short, medium, and long sleepers.
An additional offering includes a diesel-fired Espar cab air parking heater, Air 2kW with protection cover, located in the luggage compartment. This heater is available on short, medium and long sleepers.
Cooling
The Mack Integrated Parking Cooler (IPC) is designed to be quieter than any other battery-powered parking cooler. The quiet AC compressor is mounted on the frame and not inside the cab. Along with the isolated mounting location, the vane-style compressor delivers smooth operation with less vibration and noise.
Because the IPC is integrated into the main HVAC system, the operator can control both the front or the rear AC while parked.
Lighting
Soft, long-lasting LED lights illuminate the sleeper with a variety of options for everything from reading in the bunk, to relaxing with dimmer ambient lighting, as well as task lighting for working. The driver controls the lighting with switches located in the same LECM panel as the HVAC.
There’s plenty of additional lighting options:
- Front floor lighting in the left and right hand footwells and on the bottom of the engine cover to illuminate the area between the seats.
- Touch lights under left and right upper cabinets illuminates the working surface below.
- Inside cabinet lighting is available on all enclosed cabinet storage in various trim options. Cabinet lights are activated by switch when the door is opened.
- Lights located under the bunk on both sides
- Rear wall lighting on sleepers with flat or recline bunks have adjustable eyeball lamps operated by a switch
Insulation
The Pioneer model has more cab thermal insulation than ever before to maintain comfortable air temperatures. An Arctic Insulation option is also available for extreme environments.
Sleeper window shades
Aircraft-style sliding window shades completely block outside light for the greatest sleep quality or to allow full illumination in for daytime. Double-sided blackout curtains slide into place with one simple motion. All windows include screened tilt-out glass for ventilation.
Upper bunk
Flexible design allows buyers to choose either a folding upper bunk or a 24-inch upper storage shelf for short, medium and long mid-roof models. The shelf has tie-down provisions and a retractable net to retain stowed items. On long high-roof sleepers, the choice is either a 34-inch upper bunk with mattress or an optional storage shelf with tie downs and a retractable net.
An integrated telescopic/extruding ladder makes it easy to get in and out of the upper bunk and locks out of the way under the upper bunk when not in use.
Lower bunk and mattress
The reclining bunk is fully adjustable and allows the driver to recline like an easy chair. It also easily stows away when using the integrated dinette table as a work or eating station. The lower bunk is offered in all sleeper models with three options: Standard, Recline and VersaBed. There are two mattress options, with the premium including additional foam and a quilted topper. The Recline and Versa Bunk are available only with the premium mattress.
Cab storage
The Mack® Pioneer™ has more than ample storage capacity as it makes use of every inch of space including under-bunk storage, rear wall storage with a 24” open shelf option. There’s front overhead shelf storage and driver side storage as well as wardrobes

Television prep kit
TV Prep is optional on medium sleepers and included on all long sleepers. This includes an articulating TV mount for up to a 24” TV and a power distribution box with a coaxial connection port to the internal antenna, a 12-volt outlet and two 120v outlets (with inverter or shore power option).
Microwave prep kit
Microwave Prep is available as on option on all medium and long sleepers. This option will includean open cabinet with a hold-down strap and a 120v outlet.
