Pro Tips from Mack: Remanufactured parts from REMACK are a cost-effective and eco-friendly alternative to buying new

For 50 years, REMACK®, Mack Trucks’ industry-leading remanufacturing division, has delivered premium remanufactured parts while significantly reducing environmental impact. Better still, those remanufactured parts are available to customers at a substantial cost savings compared to new parts while still delivering the same reliability and performance.

Savvy drivers and fleet owners looking for new parts should consider buying remanufactured parts from REMACK instead, since doing so promotes environmental stewardship while also representing great value to the customer.

“By remanufacturing components to exacting Mack specifications, we’re providing our customers with cost-effective solutions while also making a meaningful contribution to sustainability by keeping valuable materials in productive use,” says Richard Simons, senior vice president of aftermarket solutions, uptime and customer support at Mack Trucks.

There’s no need to worry that remanufactured parts are any less reliable than new parts, says Rick Cape, remanufactured technical product manager for Mack Trucks.

“Our highly trained technicians—with an average of over 22 years of experience—use advanced technologies like electromagnetic crack detection, precision CNC machining and dynamic testing to ensure each remanufactured part meets the same exacting standards as new parts,” Cape says. “This meticulous process not only guarantees reliability for our customers but also maximizes the lifecycle of valuable materials.”

REMACK’s comprehensive remanufacturing process encompasses more than 25 different product lines, from engines and transmissions to coolant pumps and NOx sensors. Each component undergoes rigorous inspection, cleaning, remanufacturing and testing using more than 1,800 precision gauges calibrated to National Institute of Standards and Technology criteria.

“What sets REMACK apart is our philosophy of keeping matched component sets together throughout the remanufacturing process,” Cape says. “These parts have been machined together originally, and maintaining that synergy ensures optimal fit and performance while reducing waste. When replacement is necessary, we use 100% new pure Mack parts, including all bearings, seals and gaskets.”

Since its founding in 1975, REMACK has prevented millions of pounds of materials from entering landfills. The remanufacturing process uses up to 85% less material and 80% less energy compared with new production.

The Middletown Remanufacturing Center (MRC)—which relocated to its current 75,000-square-foot facility in Middletown, Pennsylvania, in 1980—serves as a model for sustainable manufacturing. In 2009, REMACK expanded its operations with a second facility in Charlotte, North Carolina, to support growing demand for remanufactured products. Today, both facilities continue to set the standard for sustainable manufacturing excellence in the trucking industry. Their environmental achievements include:

Looking ahead, REMACK continues to evolve with the industry while maintaining its environmental commitment. The division now remanufactures advanced components like Mack® mDRIVE™ Automated Manual Transmissions, DEF pumps and engine control units, ensuring modern trucks can benefit from the same sustainable solutions that have served the industry for half a century.
