Mack Trucks Introduces Dual Solutions with Pioneer™ and Anthem® Models

GREENSBORO, NC (September 24, 2025) – With the launch of both the all-new Mack Pioneer™ and all-new Mack Anthem®, Mack Trucks is now offering an expanded truck portfolio, providing customers with two distinct, purpose-built solutions that excel in different operational priorities while sharing premium features and advanced technologies.

“For the first time in our 125-year history, Mack offers two completely new, from the ground-up highway trucks that give customers the power to choose exactly what their businesses need,” said Stephen Roy, global president of Mack Trucks. “Whether prioritizing maximum fuel efficiency, driver comfort or maximum maneuverability, our customers no longer have to compromise. Both trucks deliver exceptional performance in day cab and sleeper configurations, expanding possibilities across all highway applications.”

Choose Your Priority: Fuel Efficiency or Maneuverability

The Pioneer and Anthem represent different approaches to highway trucking excellence, each optimized for specific operational priorities while maintaining Mack’s legendary durability and driver focus.

The fundamental distinction between the two trucks lies in their design priorities. The Pioneer, with its 125.5-inch bumper-to-back-of-cab (BBC) length, prioritizes aerodynamic performance and can achieve up to 11% improvement in fuel efficiency compared with previous Mack models.

The Anthem, featuring a shorter 113.5-inch BBC, prioritizes maneuverability and payload capacity, while still delivering up to a 10% fuel efficiency improvement over its predecessor.

“This isn't about limiting trucks to specific routes or applications,” said Jonathan Randall, president of Mack Trucks North America. “It’s about giving customers the tools to optimize their operations. We see Pioneer day cabs excelling in fuel-conscious operations, and Anthem sleepers serving drivers who need both comfort and maneuverability. The choice depends on what matters most to each customer’s bottom line.”

The 12-inch BBC difference translates to significant operational advantages. The Anthem's shorter design allows drivers to see approximately 12 feet closer to the front bumper, enhancing safety in tight spaces and urban environments. For operations requiring frequent maneuvering – from city deliveries to congested port facilities – this visibility advantage can reduce incident rates and improve driver confidence.

Meanwhile, the Pioneer’s extended aerodynamic profile, combined with features like the optional digital mirror system, delivers fuel savings that can exceed $5,500 annually per truck for high-mileage operations. For fleets running 100,000+ miles annually, these efficiency gains represent substantial cost reductions during the vehicle’s lifetime. Additionally, for customers prioritizing sleeper size and living space, the Pioneer offers an exclusive advantage with its available 76-inch high-roof sleeper configuration, providing drivers with maximum comfort for extended time on the road.

Shared Excellence, Different Strengths

Despite their different design priorities, both trucks share significant DNA. The interior cab dimensions are identical, offering the same nine-inch width increase compared with previous models. Both feature Mack’s exclusive premium seating with dual armrests, heating, cooling and massage functions. The advanced HVAC systems, push-button start and innovative Mack® mDrive™ Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) column shifter are standard across both models.

“We strategically designed and engineered both trucks to share the same premium interior experience,” said Vincent Lokers, specialist chief designer at Mack Trucks. “Drivers shouldn’t have to sacrifice comfort based on their truck’s operational priority. Whether you’re in a Pioneer or an Anthem, you’re experiencing the pinnacle of driver comfort.”

Both trucks are available in multiple configurations: -Day Cab, 44-inch Sleeper, 64-inch Sleeper and 76-inch Sleeper (exclusive to the Pioneer) models. The Pioneer’s 76-inch high-roof sleeper option includes the innovative FlexSuite system, in which the lower bunk rotates against the rear wall to create additional living space. It also includes a fold out dinette table with seating, ideal for team drivers or those spending extended periods on the road.

Technology and Safety Leadership

Both models feature Mack Protect, the company’s proprietary Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), along with standard frontal airbags and the optional Integrated Curtain Airbag (ICA) system. The optional digital mirror system, available on both trucks, eliminates blind spots while contributing approximately 1% additional fuel savings. Mack Connect telematics, over-the-air programming capabilities and the MyMack driver app are standard across both models, ensuring fleet managers have complete visibility and control regardless of which truck they choose.

Making the Right Choice

“The question isn't whether you need a long-haul or regional truck anymore,” said Fernando Couceiro, vice president of highway trucks at Mack Trucks. “The question is: what does your operation prioritize? If every penny of fuel savings matters and you’re running high annual mileage, the Pioneer is your answer. If you need maximum maneuverability for tight delivery locations, weight-sensitive applications or simply prefer the superior forward visibility, the Anthem is ideal.”

Customer feedback has validated this approach. Early adopters report that having both options allows them to optimize their entire fleet rather than accepting one-size-fits-all compromises.

“The ability to spec different trucks for our mixed operational needs—without sacrificing quality or features—is significant,” said Matt Godfrey, ABF Freight president. “Our fuel-intensive linehaul routes benefit from the Pioneer’s max efficiency, and the Anthem’s maneuverability is great for tighter city routes and customer deliveries. Having the right tool for each job is critical, and Mack helps make it happen.”

Availability

The Mack Pioneer is currently available for order with deliveries underway. The all-new Anthem will be available for order later this year, with production beginning January 2026 at Mack's Lehigh Valley Operations facility, Macungie, Pennsylvania, where the company has invested $175 million in recent upgrades.

“This comprehensive highway lineup represents Mack’s commitment to providing solutions, not just trucks,” Roy said. “By offering two exceptional choices, each optimized for different priorities, we’re empowering our customers to build fleets that precisely match their operational needs. That's what being ‘Built Like a Mack’ really means.”

Target industries for the new Anthem include bulk haulers, dry bulk operations, food and beverage distribution, general freight operations and less-than-truckload (LTL) services.
