Pro Tips from Mack: Maximize new truck features and reduce fleet downtime Mack Academy’s training resources help fleet technicians stay up to date
Mack Trucks Academy can help your fleet technicians and drivers see better vehicle performance, customer satisfaction and increased uptime. Mack Trucks Academy currently offers training for anyone working at the dealership level and for fleet technicians, with courses ranging from technical and service training to leadership courses.
Scott Behe, senior manager of operations for Mack Trucks Academy, says their training courses can help fleet technicians stay up to date on current truck features and perform basic repairs and maintenance themselves.
“It won’t fully replace the need for the dealer service technicians, but when it comes to preventative maintenance, and the most basic repairs, Mack Trucks Academy can help maximize technicians’ skillsets so that they can keep their fleet on the road,” Behe says. “And from our perspective at Mack Trucks, we want those trucks on the road. That’s what makes happy customers and happy dealers. If we can help fleet technicians handle basic repairs faster so they can keep their drivers on the road, that’s a win for everyone involved.”
Behe estimates there are roughly 50 online training courses available for technicians, as well as 11 in-person courses featuring hands-on training at seven training academies across North America.
While current driver-centric training resources are limited, Behe says his team is already hard at work on a massive resource expansion focused on drivers.
“If I want to know how to change the light switch in my home, I can go to YouTube and find a three-minute video tutorial on how to do that. We want to make a resource that’s just as useful to our drivers,” Behe says. “Right now we’re in the process of shooting a lot of training videos that will be specifically for drivers: short, three- to five-minute snippets explaining what something does or how it works. We want to create around 50 of these videos, all of them short and helping drivers get the most out of their truck’s many features.”
If that sounds interesting to you, then head to the Mack Development Guide, home of Mack Trucks Academy’s training courses and the future site of all driver video resources. For fleets that want to get their technicians trained using Mack Trucks Academy, contact your dealership and ask to get signed up as a fleet learner.
