An epic take on a dirty job
Epic Septic & Service deploys Mack® MD6s to reinvent the image of the septic industry
Founders Chad Riddersen and Kyle Voss admit that they didn’t grow up dreaming about modernizing the septic industry, but the brothers-in-law saw the need for a fresh approach to one of life’s necessities. Established in 2025, the Austin, Texas-based company eclipsed $1 million in revenue in a matter of months through their commitment to enhancing the perception of septic service through military-grade precision, top-notch professionalism, explosive branding and operating the right truck for the job, the Mack® MD Series.
“The septic industry needs a reputation refresh,” said Voss, a Marine Corps artillery captain and former professional football player. “Every part of our business reflects our Epic Standard: showing up on time, bringing expert service and care, and doing what's right by our customers — from residential to commercial and municipal. Much of our success can be attributed to Mack.”
After starting with one Mack MD6, Epic Septic quickly expanded, buying a second truck and hiring three employees to meet growing demand after the first month of operations. They aim to become the first national septic brand in the U.S.
Riddersen, a marketing entrepreneur, and Voss anticipate 100 of the company’s signature Marine Corps-green Mack MDs with bold Epic Septic branding reporting for duty over the next two to three years through their Epic Operator Franchise program, which lowers startup costs and removes barriers to entering the septic industry by providing talented operators with trucks equipped for service.
Selecting the right truck, spec’d for success
“Our trucks are what generate revenue,” said Voss, so he and Riddersen forged a relationship with their local Mack dealer, Vanguard Truck Centers. Fleet sales executive Mike Sandifer worked with them to create the best package for the demanding job. The Epic team also partners with Vanguard on the service side because they know the value of uptime to their business.
“A Mack MD6 with a 2,500-gallon aluminum tank is the Swiss Army knife to complete 99% of septic calls we get, and that’s exactly the reason why we like it,” said Voss. “And being a Marine, I wanted a truck to match our core values. Mack is American-made and built to last. They’re reliable, and that’s exactly why we chose Mack, and they look the best.”
Drivers appreciate the MD6’s spacious cabin and the comfort of the premium driver’s seat, which helps them feel better at the end of the workday. They also benefit from unparalleled maneuverability and visibility, essential in both residential and commercial service environments.
“Austin is in Texas’ hill country, where we have steep grades and winding roads, and the MD6 is the right size, perfect for the conditions,” said Voss. “Our drivers love driving the Mack MDs. They tell us that it’s nimble like a golf cart compared to a Class 8 truck, but it packs all the power needed, even on hills.”
Another upside to the MD6 for Epic Septic is that the engine is designed to run on B20 fuel – 20% biodiesel. Committed to environmental responsibility, they’re creating a circular sustainability model by collecting grease from restaurant grease traps, which represents about half their business, and transporting it to a facility that converts it to biofuel that they can use to fuel their fleet.
Boldly branded to turn heads, and turn a profit
“Kyle and Chad have a vision for their business, and we’ve formed a very close relationship with them, built on trust in our team’s knowledge and setting them up with the best trucks for the job, and they’ve taken that and put their own jazz on it,” said Sandifer.
That “jazz” includes the unmistakable Epic branding that Voss says is, “inspired by GI Joe boxes and comic books.”
“We recognize that the brand can help elevate our ability to attract great talent, and our trucks are effectively billboards on wheels, so we embrace an idea we call ‘parketing’,” said Riddersen. “It’s like marketing with a ‘P’ – the ability of our truck to generate demand for our services any time they’re out in the community. About 20% of our business leads come directly from people seeing our truck, and the rest comes because we get great reviews and present a very professional image. We also attracted both of our drivers because of the brand, and because they were excited to drive a Mack truck. We’re having drivers tell us that they’ve always dreamed of driving a Mack.”
A blueprint for the future
Riddersen and Voss describe Epic Septic as a “high-octane, no-BS team of professionals committed to transforming one of the dirtiest industries in the cleanest, most professional way possible.”
Reinventing the image of an established industry isn’t an easy job, but they have a blueprint and a vision, and they’re actively recruiting those who want to join them and their growing fleet of Mack MDs to make the septic industry Epic.
